Why? Because if your other half dies\u00a0<em>after<\/em>\u00a0the divorce but\u00a0<em>before<\/em>\u00a0you have a Court order confirming the financial settlement, you could lose out\u00a0as their widow or widower. A\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.just-family-law.com\/blog\/index.php\/2017\/06\/02\/pay-as-you-go-divorce-costs\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>pay as you go<\/em><\/a>\u201d deal is the answer.\u00a0This means you ask a solicitor for\u00a0advice when needed, and limit the expense. But if you hand your divorce over to a solicitor, make sure you know how much they\u2019re going to\u00a0charge.\u00a0Can you do the divorce yourself? But various factors are taken into\u00a0account including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The children&#8217;s welfare<\/li>\n<li>Income and earning capacity<\/li>\n<li>Financial needs<\/li>\n<li>Standard of living<\/li>\n<li>Your ages, and length of the marriage<\/li>\n<li>Physical or mental disabilities<\/li>\n<li>Contributions to the marriage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s\u00a0an idea to ask an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.just-family-law.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>experienced family law solicitor<\/em><\/a> for advice if there are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Disagreements about children<\/li>\n<li>Disputes about property<\/li>\n<li>Valuable property<\/li>\n<li>Assets with significant values, such as a pension or an inheritance, you&#8217;d like to\u00a0protect.
