Research has shown\u00a0it\u2019s not the <em>separation<\/em> or <em>divorce<\/em>\u00a0itself but the <em>conflict<\/em> arising during the process.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>But isn&#8217;t conflict inevitable?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>No, not if parents remain amicable and communicate calmly and effectively with each other and the children. But sadly conflict does indeed often arise because\u00a0parents have to\u00a0rely on &#8220;fault&#8221; when they divorce for example unreasonable behaviour or adultery.\u00a0Resolution has discovered that almost three quarters of the population agree that <em>No Fault Divorce<\/em> would protect the long-term interests of children.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>How can parents avoid <\/strong><strong>harm to children?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>It is without doubt possible to minimise damage to children and statistics show that half of divorcing parents\u00a0successfully\u00a0put their children&#8217;s needs first. Furthermore eighty two percent of children in a Resolution\u00a0survey<em>\u00a0<\/em>said they would prefer their parents to part if they\u00a0were unhappy.\u00a0Children\u00a0do not want to live\u00a0in conflict and uncertainty any more than grown ups.<\/p>\n<p>To bring the marriage to a positive but final end collaborative law and mediation are recommended.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.just-family-law.com\/collaborative-law\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Collaborative law<\/em><\/a> is a particularly effective way to reduce conflict and promote the best interests of the family as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>Read my blog\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.just-family-law.com\/blog\/index.php\/2017\/03\/29\/8-tips-on-arrangements-for-children-after-separation\/\" target=\"_blank\">8 Tips on Arrangements for Children after Separation<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are even apps out there to help you co-parent.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Is divorce bad for Children?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Sadly it can be. In surveys children report:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>they felt left out of the process<\/li>\n<li>had no say where they lived<\/li>\n<li>felt they had to choose between parents<\/li>\n<li>had no understanding what was going on<\/li>\n<li>felt it was all their fault<\/li>\n<li>didn&#8217;t get\u00a0good exam results as a result<\/li>\n<li>got into trouble at school<\/li>\n<li>drank alcohol and considered taking drugs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>How about parental alienation?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Yes, there&#8217;s that too:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a\u00a0third of children report one parent tried to turn them against the other parent<\/li>\n<li>almost a fifth said they lost touch with their grandparents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are a grandparent in this heartbreaking situation please see my blog\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.just-family-law.com\/blog\/index.php\/2018\/11\/02\/do-grandparents-have-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\">Do Grandparents Have Rights?
